After numerous hours of rehearsal we finally did it, we kept our successive run intact.
Diocesan Boys’ School has been participating in the World Choir Games since 2006 Xiamen and we’ve been fortunate enough to have won in Youth Male Voice category ever since, our efforts put in rehearsals have finally paid off!
It was such an honor for me to sing once again with the Diocesan Boys Choir, ever since I left to UK for studies, I have always thought I would miss the Diocesan Spirit, the time where a group of kids gather around and create marvellous music together, laughing, crying and joining in the playful banter amongst each other, the unity is what choir is all about, singing in harmony.
While I was singing “A Red, Red Rose” by Eric William Barnum, the lyrics in it reminded me of my dedication to my old school.
“And I will come, Tho’ ‘t were ten thousand mile, ten thousand mile…” I could not help but let a couple of tears of gratitude trickle down my face for this chance to sing with them once again.
Now back in Hong Kong, after the competitions, I can’t help but to dream about singing with them once again in Cincinnati, the times we’ve spent rehearsing has etched in my mind a beautiful memory.
I have participated in the world choir games twice, once in Graz 2008 and once in ShaoXing 2010, and it’s no doubt a great place to meet new friends along the way, all these different cultures to experience in this wonderful event, there’s nothing more I could ask for.
In Hong Kong, choir is a rare thing, as Secondary school student graduate their involvement in Choir diminishes due to the busy college life, and I am right about to enter college next year, the fear I have is that I will not be able to participate in the World Choir Games anymore. But it has been a truly once in a lifetime experience for many!
The friends I have made are still closely in contact, and the memories I had during the World Choir Games will be treasured forever, hoping to sing once again in USA!
