World Choir Games promotion in China

(by IK China, translated from Chinese to English) The Choir Performance of the 17th Beijing Student Art Festival was held in Hai Dian District Children’s Palace from Dec 11 to 13. Over 80 school choirs participated in the event.

On December 14 and 15 three lectures were organized to further educate more than 100 musical teachers and conductors featuring a demonstration choir.

INTERKULTUR and the company Gorgeous Education International invited Johan Rooze, member of the World Choir Council, to judge and give lectures. Johan Rooze introduced the training skill of children’s choirs, voice and intonation, which was popular in participants. In addition, Johan Rooze also introduced the evaluation system of the World Choir Games and gave some advice on the preparation for the competition. The participants gained expertise from his lecture.

Johan Rooze is an expert in choral music and Jazz music. Utrecht University Dekoor Choir, under his conduction, achieved excellent results in international choir competitions and festivals. The choir also came first in a Dutch National Television Show. Thus, their CD hit the Dutch Music Charts.

In addition, Johan Rooze is Guest Conductor of the China Conservatory of Music and Taiwan Music Center and gave lectures in many countries. From 2008, he has been working as professor of Keimyung University in Korea. He also represents the Republic of South Korea in the INTERKULTUR World Choir Council.
