“Music is the best connecting element”Jan 13th, 2014 | By hen | Category: Choir Events, Personal Reports, Top Post, World Choir Games
Questions were asked by Uwe Degen, Germany.
Why are you at the World Choir Games 2014?
The World Choir Games bring together choirs from all parts of the world. We will come to know the maximum of the variety of international choral music. On top of this the expectable level of performances is high and I hope that the singers will listen to as many choir performances as possible to learn from it, and to see and hear how choral music is done in other cultures.
Which other World Choir Games did you already attend?
I was in Linz (2000) and Bremen (2004).
What is your most memorable World Choir Games experience?
My fondest memory is the Champions Concert in Linz and the competition in the concert hall “Die Glocke” in Bremen. Both events created an unbeatable atmosphere.
Why are you especially looking forward to at the World Choir Games 2014 in Riga?
Peter Schmitt: My wife and I are very curious about the city of Riga and the country Latvia, of course. However, we will focus on the competition and concerts in Riga. Our hard rehearsal work and the way to the World Choir Games are an important part of the whole project.
The choral singers are highly dedicated and enjoy studying the choir literature. Thus, it’s going to be a great project and singers and fellow travelers will experience a fantastic trip together.
What is your expectation and objective for the male choir in Riga?
Expectations and objectives are not easy to determine. The choir is supposed to perform at the level it is able to. Judging competitions in advance is the more difficult, as you don’t know the other competitors before.
We will do our best and are satisfied with every result that seems to be fair to us.
What is music for you?
As I am professional musician music plays a big role in my life. The most important thing is the singing. Singing is relaxing, makes happy, is inspiring, calming, connects people and never asks „who plays music with whom“?
Music is actually the best connecting element between people, countries, religions and cultures.
Thanks for taking the time to answer the questions.
