They’re almost over, the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi. However, there’s still a highlight to come for us: The Closing Ceremony on February 23 features a very special choir on stage: The Children’s Chorus of Russia consisting of singers coming from all over Russia that features a total of 1000 voices! Some of the children will also travel to Riga to participate in the World Choir Games 2014 with their choir in summer.
They are singers from the choir “Khor ‚Edinstvo‘ Khorovoj Shkoly Malchikov i Yunoshej ‚Debut‘“ from Moscow that we’re going to meet again in Riga in summer 2014. They made it through the selection process and have been selected to join the Children’s Chorus of Russia.
This choir project’s initiator is the All-Russian Choral Association. In September 2013 the preliminary decision for the project began, children from 83 regions of the Russian Federation participated. The country’s best conductors were sent to all corners of Russia to judge and evaluate all future participants in the project. The selected children aged 9 to 14 who made it to the 1000 singers choir due to their timbre and talent. First they were divided into nine district groups and nine district conductors started to work with them.
On January 8 they went on stage together for the first time in the Mariinski theater in St. Petersburg. Next Sunday the project highlight in fact is following at the Olympic Winter Games.
The choir is conducted by Maestro Valery Gergiev, director of the Mariinski theater in St. Petersburg and chief conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra.
By the way, INTERKULTUR President Günter Titsch will be on site as well on Sunday and watch the choir live on stage. Today he will go to Russia accepting an invitation by the Russian Ministry of Culture in Moscow to join the Closing Ceremony of Sochi 2014 as guest of honor.
