Choirs from 13 nations have travelled to Bad Ischl in these days to participate in the 12th International Choir Competition & Festival. The opening day is on Thursday, May 1.

Roughly 600 singers in traditional costumes will gather at the Trinkhalle in the afternoon and form a big choir parade through the city dressed in traditional costumes and singing traditional songs. They’re accompanied by two musicians from the goup “Lindaua Buam”.

The parade ends in the Kurpark, where the official opening event takes place and choral voices from all over the world will sound for the first time in Bad Ischl this year. The choirs “Coro Voxes” from Italy and “Namib Youth Choir” from Namibia present traditional music from their home countries to the audience.

At the opening concert in the evening more international choirs go on stage in the Kongress & TheaterHaus: “The Children’s Choir of the Kirovograd Musical College ‘Zorynka’” (Ukraine), “Riga Stradins University Mixed Choir RIGA” (Latvia), “Teranke” (Croatia) and “Stockholms Musikgymnasium Youth Choir 2014” from Sweden. They’re the musical prelude to the competitions in eleven categories that are going to take place from May 2 in Bad Ischl.

Admission to all festival concerts and events in Bad Ischl is free.
