(joy) One of the most exciting parts during the World Choir Games is the Opening Ceremony and Closing Ceremony where the Peace Bell rings-indicating a great start and a successful end. On July 1 the Peace Bell has started its journey from the Netherlands to Riga and it will ring out the 8th World Choir Games 2014 on July 9th.

The unique bell was made especially for Riga by the Dutch Royal Bell Foundry Petit & Fritsen and it weighs 480 kilograms, which is approximately the weight of 5.7 grown-up men. The bell has been tuned to the key A1, 440Hz. It is the symbol of WCG just as the epigraph on it in Latvian and English: ‘SINGING TOGETHER BRINGS NATIONS TOGETHER! DZIESMA VIENO TAUTAS!’

The World Choir Games is the world’s largest choir music festival, 460 choirs and 27.000 participants from 73 countries will gather in Riga. The Peace bell will be located in the Arena Riga during the World Choir Games 2014 to witness incredible moments music lovers create by bonding love and friendship with each other through music.

The bell will travel more than 32.000 kilometers and is expected to arrive in Riga on July 4th. Then the Peace Bell will be delivered to the team of World Choir Games organizers, waiting for choral lovers from all over the world.

The Peace Bell will be waiting for you in Riga! Can’t wait to see you all on stage!
